Recent Events

4th March – Short Story Competition Judging Evening

Our glittering awards evening will take place on March 4th. This year’s short story competition was on the theme of ‘The Sea, though stories can be written in any genre the writer wishes. There are cash prizes to be won but the contest is only open to paid up members of Cambridge Writers, so if you want to enter, join up quick!

4th February – Kate Rhodes

We are delighted to welcome crime and mystery novelist Kate Rhodes to our first event of 2025. Kate completed an English Degree and PhD on Tennessee Williams while living in the USA. She now lives and writes poetry and novels in Cambridge. Her latest books are the Isles of Scilly Mysteries, featuring DI Ben Kitto and his wayward wolfdog, Shadow.

December Social!

Our December social will be held at The Old Tram Depot in Cambridge on Tuesday 3rd December. We have a private room booked for fully paid up members of Cambridge Writers from 7pm until closing. 5th November – Hannah Hooton

Book launch!!! Hannah Hooton will discuss her latest novel, The Thirteenth Hour, set in the present day and in 1940. As well as reading from her work she will touch on her way of researching, structure and point of view. 1st October – Hollie McNish

Hollie is a poet, author and performer based in Cambridge and Glasgow. She won the Ted Hughes award for poetry. Her collections include Nobody Told Me, Plum and Cherry Pie, her latest is entitled Lobster. Her work often includes themes of pregnancy and motherhood. Find out more about Hollie at her website

3rd September – Nicholas Best

Nick served in the Grenadier Guards and worked as a journalist and literary critic for the Financial Times, before writing full-time. His first novel Where were you at Waterloo? is in places as sharp as Waugh and sometimes better – quotes The TLS. His second, Tennis and the Masai, considered the funniest book of the year by the Daily Telegraph

2nd July – Fantasy Fiction Competition Results Evening

At this event, the top three stories as voted for by you, the members, will be revealed! There will be a chance to hear the stories read by their authors, and free refreshments. If you have entered, we urge you to attend, so you can read out your story if you are among those placed. A little about the competition:

4th June – Flash Fiction Competition 2024 Results Night

Our flash fiction competition is judged on the night, in person. Simply bring a printed copy of your story, with title but WITHOUT your name on it, to the meeting on 4th June. The word limit is pretty tight, at 250, which does not include the title. When penning your story, make sure every word counts, and you do produce

7th May – Mike Levy

We are delighted to welcome Mike Levy, a former teacher and journalist who helps run history-based projects with a strong arts element thrown in. He is a Holocaust educator and regular theatre and music reviewer for www.thecambridgecritique.com. Now pursuing a PhD at Anglia Ruskin on the Cambridge Refugee Committees 1938-48. He enjoys giving talks on Broadway lyricists and history subjects.

2nd April -AGM 2024

It’s time for our AGM 2024! All members are welcome and encouraged to come along to the meeting to see how Cambridge Writers is run, and be a part of steering our direction for the future. Cecilia is a local young adult romantic comedy novelist. Born in France but has lived in Japan and USA. Her latest publication is The Girl Next Door, previously Seven Days You and The Summer of Us.
