4th November- Short Story Workshop and Anthology Launch

Join us for an evening of stories, creativity, and community as we launch the 2025 Cambridge Writers Short Story Competition anthology.

The evening will include nibbles, a glass or two shared among friends, and a special mini-workshop with award-winning short story writer Josephine Warrior.

Get swept away by this collection of stories, written by our very own members for this year’s competition, all on the theme of The Sea.

You’ll be able to grab your copy at our launch evening for just £7.99.

As well as launching our anthology for this year’s competition, we’re also running a workshop to get you inspired to pen an entry for next year’s contest. The theme for next year will be ‘Loss’. But don’t let the word fool you—loss is not about being a loser. This workshop will help you explore the many possibilities the theme offers, and perhaps even spark a story that could become a winning entry. Not only that, every entry is eligible for inclusion in next year’s publication.

The evening is designed to springboard you into crafting the beginnings—and maybe even the ending—of your story. Whether your piece turns out to be “a kiss in the dark from a stranger” (Stephen King) or “a sharp fragment of life” (Will Self), the workshop will give you tools to approach the notoriously tricky short story form with confidence.

Josephine Warrior is a professional writer with more than eight non-fiction books to her name, alongside articles on a wide variety of subjects. She has published over 100 short stories and won multiple competitions, including the Cambridge Writers Short Story Competition three times. Her mission this evening is to inspire you to enjoy writing something for this year’s competition.

Josephine has kindly shared her full notes for this event, so members who could not attend, or who would like more time to work through the exercises, can experience the workshop as if they were there on the night.
