Suspension of Cambridge Writers Programme

It will not surprise you that we have had to suspend part of the arranged programme for Cambridge Writers.

  • The April, May and June meetings at Hartington Grove have been cancelled. Moreover, there will be no summer social. We hope to rearrange the meetings with Sophie Hannah and Siobhan Carew for 2021.
  • We strongly urge you to renew your membership subscription. This will then be valid to September 2021, rather than March of that year. Should the crisis continue into the autumn, we will further extend the renewal date.
  • The Flash Fiction competition will go ahead, but via email. Instead of chocolates, there will be cash prizes of £30, £20, and £10. As ever, the results will be decided by membership votes. Entries will be sent to me by 31st May. I shall mail everybody with more details in April.
  • Group meetings are also cancelled until further notice. However, we want the chance that groups provided for constructive critical comment on our writing to continue. Group coordinators will be contacting those on their email lists shortly about possibilities for online work and comment. If you have never taken part in a group, this might be a good opportunity to do so. Details of coordinators can be found on our website.

May I leave you with a quotation from Machiavelli:

“…all human affairs are ever in a state of flux, and cannot stand still, either there will be no improvement or decline, and necessity will lead you to do many things which reason does not recommend.”

All good wishes,

Harry Goode, Chair
